Winston-Salem, NC - Wake Forest began day two of football practice Monday morning and were not that far along through drills when the Demon Deacons were met by a gulleywasher. First year head coach Jim Grobe was not deterred and the gridders kept at it.
"We had a sloppy practice this morning," said Grobe. "It rained the whole practice. Although I thought our offense did a pretty good job of taking care of the ball, we had a little trouble with throwing and catching the ball. We need to concentrate a little more, we may have to play in the rain, so we're just going to practice through it."
Later that afternoon, the Deacs reconvened for the second of the two-a-day practices and were greeted with clearer skies and steamier temperatures. Intensity was up and the coaching staff seemed to be pleased with the progress being made.
"This afternoon we had a really good practice," said Grobe. It was nice and warm and we got a good two-hour session in. Our guys responded really well. We practiced pretty well while we were tired, but we still need to do some little things better. We need take better care of the football and make fewer metal mistakes. I'm really pleased with what we've got in in four practices though. The effort has been really good."
Wake Forest will be back at it again Tuesday for two sessions of practice as the Demon Deacons prepare for their season opener, Sept. 1 at East Carolina.
