"Everything has gone pretty quick. I don't think it has gone as quick for the players as it has for the coaches. I think we have had about as good two-a-day practices as we can have. The only way we can get better now is to go play someone."
Are you where you hoped to be?
"Yeah, I think we are fine. We've got some bumps and bruises but when you go two-a-days for two weeks it is hard not to. We are a little banged up and I wish we were more healthy right now, but overall I am pleased with where we are."
Do you guys have an advantage that you have seen a lot of game play from ECU but they haven't seen a lot of Coach Grobe at Wake Forest?
"When I was with Ohio University we played Steve Logan and the Pirates several times and so they know us pretty well. They have played us twice in our option game. We haven't changed a whole lot defensively, offensively we have done some more things because of the type players we have. They know us about as well as anybody we play this year."
What concerns you most about East Carolina?
"I can't find any weaknesses. As a football coach you try and find your opponent's weaknesses and hope to exploit them a little bit. They have one of the best quarterbacks in the country. They have a fine running back and very talented offensive line. Their receivers are very dangerous. Defensively the Griffin kid is one of the best linebackers in the country. They have nine starters back on the defense and they only gave up 17 points last year. They are great on special teams. They are a confidant team that feels they can go undefeated. There's no place you can look at them and see where you can attack them."
Good, bad or indifferent that you start with such a quality opponent rather than a cupcake?
"Well not good. You would like to play somebody where you feel like you can go make a few mistakes and still have a chance to win. I feel like when going to Greenville we are playing a great football team that is not only well coached but playing them in their own back yard is a lot to bite off for the first game. We have to play mistake free football to have a chance to be in it."
