WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Sophomore midfielder Brian Carroll earned honorable mention preseason All-America honors from collegesoccer.com. The native of Springfield, Va., spent the spring semester travelling with the U-20 National Team, competing in Trinidad, France and at the World Youth Championships in Argentina.
Carroll was one of only six players to appear in all of the team's first 12 matches, making six starts including one against Chile at the Youth Championships and in the USA's 2-1 win against Mexico in Guadalajara on Feb. 1.
As a freshman in 2000 for the Demon Deacons, Carroll started in all 19 of Wake Forest's games. He tallied six points on the season with a goal against UNC Asheville and assists against UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Maryland and High Point. His helped the Deacons advanced past Clemson in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals by converting on his shootout penalty kick opportunity.
Carroll, along with junior team captain Aaron Thomas, will be the anchors of the Wake Forest midfield in 2001. The team reports to campus on Tuesday, August 14th with the exhibition opener coming on August 18 at Spry Stadium against Greensboro College.
