- Today's game captains for Wake Forest are #52 Marquis Hopkins and #79 Michael Collins.
- Bruce Perry's 80-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage from Maryland was the longest scoring play by a Deacon opponent since last year's Maryland game (10/21/00), when Randall Jones had a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown. It was the longest rush for a touchdown by a Deacon opponent since Florida State's Sean Jackson scored on an 88-yard run versus the Deacs on Sept. 26, 1992 in Tallahassee.
- Perry's touchdown also marked the first points the Deacons have given up in the first quarter since playing Navy in the next-to-last game of last season (Nov. 18, 2000).
- Wake Forest has not allowed more than seven points in the first quarter since giving up 14 points to Maryland on Oct. 21 of last season. During that span, the Deacs gave up three points to Duke, seven points to FSU, seven points to Navy, and shut out NC State, East Carolina and Appalachian State in the opening stanza.
- Wake Forest started in a four receiver set for the first time this season, with #2 John Stone, #15 Jax Landfried, #21 Fabian Davis and #80 Jax Landfried all appearing on the first play from scrimmage.
- Anthony Young started at quarterback for the third straight game this season, although he and James MacPherson continue to alternate series as Wake's signal caller.
- Ovie Mughelli recorded his first catch this season, a four-yarder from James MacPherson in the first quarter.
- Tarence Williams' nine-yard run in the second quarter gave him his 1,000th career rushing yard. His 11-yard touchdown run in the third quarter was the first touchdown scored on Maryland in nine quarters and was Williams' ninth career touchdown. He also recorded his fifth career and third consecutive 100-yard rushing game with 100 yards against the Terps.
- Adrian Duncan recorded his seventh career interception when he picked off a Maryland pass in the endzone just before halftime.
- Although Maryland's Brooks Barnard ranks No. 1 among Division I-A punters entering today's game (49.5 average), it was Wake Forest's quarterback/punter James MacPherson who had the better day. MacPherson had five punts for 244 yards (48.8 average), while Barnard had five punts for 197 yards (39.4 average).
- John Stone's 49 kickoff return yards versus Maryland moved him into 16th place all-time among ACC kickoff return leaders. Listed 17th entering the game, Stone passed NC State's Chris Williams and finished the day with a career total of 1,402 yards.
- Entering today's game, Maryland's first team offense had not committed a turnover. Today they had two - both interceptions thrown by starting quarterback Shaun Hill.
- Redshirt freshman cornerback Marcus McGruder recorded his second career interception when he picked off a Shaun Hill pass in the third quarter.
- Since missing his final two field goal attempts at East Carolina, placekicker Tyler Ashe has connected on four straight kicks - two against Appalachian State and two versus Maryland. His 37-yarder in the fourth quarter versus the Terps was his longest of the season. He is currently 6-of-8 in field goals so far this year. Ashe also enjoyed a productive day on kickoffs, booting all of his kickoffs into or beyond the endzone.
- Redshirt freshman Jason Anderson caught his first career touchdown pass, a 44-yarder from James MacPherson in the fourth quarter. It was also the longest career touchdown pass for MacPherson, who previous longest was a 29-yarder to Fabian Davis last year at Navy.
