Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest men's soccer team, unranked in any polls last week and in the preseason, catapulted to ninth in the NSCAA coaches' poll that was released on Monday.
It is the highest ranking for the team since Sept. 11, 2000 when the Deacons climbed to number five following a victory at eventual national champion Connecticut.
The Deacons were deemed worthy of the ranking after capturing the George Mason Classic title over the weekend. Wake Forest whitewashed 16th-ranked James Madison 2-0 on Friday before beating the host school, George Mason, 3-1. Four players were named to the All-Tournament Team including goalkeeper William Hesmer who was named Co-ACC Player of the Week.
Wake Forest also cracked the Soccer America poll this week at #17.
The Demon Deacons will have their home opener on Saturday September 8 against Dartmouth at 1:00 p.m.
