CLEMSON, S.C. - Wake Forest Football Notes
Wake Forest at Clemson
Oct. 19, 2002
Clemson, S.C.
* Today's game captains are #15 Jax Landfried and #45 Brad White.
* The announced attendance of 81,000 is the fourth-largest crowd ever to see a WFU football game, ranking behind two appearances at Michigan (1976, 1988) and at Tennessee (1985).
* Running back Tarence Williams passed the 2,000-yard career rushing mark on the last play of the first quarter. Williams entered the game with 1,978 yards and got the 22 yards he needed for 2,000 on seven carries in the opening stanza.
* Quarterback James MacPherson recorded a career-long rush of 28 yards which set up Wake's first touchdown of the game.
* Kicker Matt Wisnosky's 40-yard field goal in the second quarter was the second-longest of his career, behind a 41-yarder at Purdue. Both of his 40+-yarders have taken place on the road.
* Wake Forest was flagged nine times for 85 yards in the first half. The nine penalties tied a single-game season high, while the yardage was one yard short of the season-high of 86 at NC State. Wake's game total of 14 penalties were one shy of the school record of 15, set against Duke in 1992.
* Tarence Williams also reached another milestone in the third quarter, scoring his 19th career touchdown. The score moved him into a tie for fourth place on Wake's career TD chart, tied with Anthony Williams and Brian Piccolo.
* After throwing 160 passes and going over 29 quarters without an interception, quarterback James MacPherson tied his career worst with three interceptions in the second half - the most he has thrown in a game since the Maryland game on Oct. 21, 2000.
* Wake Forest doubled its turnover total of the season with five turnovers against the Tigers. The Deacs came into the game with five turnovers on the season.
