* Tonight's game captains for Wake Forest are #32 Ovie Mughelli and #25 Quintin Williams.
* Senior tight end Ray Thomas recorded his second-career touchdown on a 17-yard pass from James MacPherson in the first quarter. It was Thomas' first TD since the 2000 season (a four-yarder against Navy, 11/18/00).
* MacPherson's pass to Thomas was just the third touchdown pass of the season for Wake Forest and first since the NC State game on Sept. 14. It was also Wake's first TD toss to a tight end since Thomas scored in 2000.
* Deacon defender Caron Bracy recovered his second fumble of the season and fourth of his career.
* Wake's 17-0 halftime lead tied its biggest of the season (it led 27-10 versus Virginia).
* Ovie Mughelli scored his 10th touchdown of the season (and career) with a two-yard run in the third quarter. He becomes the 12th Demon Deacon in school history to record at least 10 rushing touchdowns in one season.
* Today's attendance of 31,046 is the largest Groves Stadium crowd since Oct. 8, 1988, when 33,500 gathered for 42-24 WFU victory over UNC.
With Wake's win today: - It is WFU's first win over UNC in Groves Stadium since 1988 (42-24). - It is Wake Forest's first shutout over UNC since a 3-0 win in 1966. - It is WFU's first shutout since defeating Illinois State 35-0 on Sept. 10, 1988. - The Deacons posted their second straight win over the Tar Heels, a first since winning three in a row in the 1987-89 seasons. - It is WFU's biggest win in the series since a 39-7 win in 1951.
