WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest offensive tackle Tim Bennett and free safety Quintin Williams appear on the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III football team. The team was announced on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Bennett, who hails from McDonald, Pa., is in his final season with the Demon Deacon football team. After earning a bachelor??s degree in Sociology last spring, he is currently enrolled in graduate school. Bennett has seen action in all 10 games so far this season, starting nine. He plays a key role on an offensive line that has helped the Deacon offense rank first in the ACC in rushing (248.1 ypg) and has given up the second-fewest number of sacks in the league in 2002.
Williams, a junior from Goldsboro, N.C., is majoring in Computer Science. He is the veteran leader of the Deacon secondary, totaling 50 tackles from the free safety spot through 10 games. Williams has played the last six games with a cast on his right hand due to a broken thumb, but it hasn??t slowed him down, as he??s also picked off a team-high three interceptions this season, bringing his career total to seven.
Both Williams and Bennett have appeared on the WFU Dean??s List as well as the ACC Honor Roll throughout their collegiate careers.
District III is made up of all Division I and I-AA schools in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. To be eligible, a player must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 in the classroom and be a starter or key reserve on the field. The players selected are now eligible for the national Academic All-America team, which will be announced on December 2nd.
Wake Forest was one of just seven schools to have at least two representatives on the District III squad.
