GREENSBORO, N.C. - Two members of the Wake Forest football team have been named to the 2002 All-Atlantic Coast Conference squad, as announced by the league office. The team is voted on by members of ACSMA (Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association).
Senior offensive guard Blake Henry (Towson, Md.) and senior defensive end Calvin Pace (Douglasville, Ga.) were both named to the All-ACC first team. Henry has been an anchor on an offensive line that has helped the Deacon offense lead the ACC in rushing and given up the fewest sacks for the past two seasons. Named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week earlier this year, Henry has consistently graded out as one of the team??s top linemen all season long.
Pace, a second-team All-ACC pick a year ago, is Wake Forest??s career tackles-for-loss leader, having broken that school record in midseason. He is also two quarterback sacks shy of breaking the WFU record in that category as well. Pace has led the conference in both categories nearly the entire season, and has been one of the team??s top tacklers in addition to blocking two kicks. He??s also been the ACC??s Defensive Lineman of the Week twice this season.
Henry and Pace, along with the rest of the All-ACC first team, will be honored at the ACC Football Banquet in Atlanta, Ga. on Monday, Dec. 2.
Wake??s two selections in 2002 marks the first time in 10 seasons that at least two Deacons have earned first-team honors. Four players were named to the first-team in 1992.
The Demon Deacons were also represented on the All-ACC second team, with senior Fabian Davis earning the honor at the specialist position. Davis leads the league in all-purpose yards, and is nationally-ranked in both punt returns and kickoff returns.
Other Wake Forest players earning honorable include offensive guard Tyson Clabo, cornerback Eric King, offensive tackle Mark Moroz, nose tackle Montique Sharpe, free safety Quintin Williams, and running back Tarence Williams.
