DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Through cold, rainy, swampy conditions on Tuesday night at Davidson's Richardson Stadium, top-ranked Wake Forest defeated Davidson, 4-0. With the win, the Demon Deacons remain unbeaten at 13-0-4.
The team set three new school records with the shutout victory. It was the 17th consecutive game without a loss, the team's ninth shutout of the year and the seventh straight road game without a loss.
The Deacons got off to a very quick start, scoring at the 7:36 mark of the opening period. Sophomore forward Scott Sealy had the ball on the left side of the box and nutmegged the oncoming Davidson keeper from 20 yards out. The ball barely skidded across the line after being slowed greatly on the choppy, muddy surface. Sealy took a pass from Amir Lowery that was let through by Justin Moose. Lowery was credited with the assist.
Twenty-five minutes later, Sealy netted his fifth goal of the season and second of the game. This time unassisted, Sealy beat the Wildcat goalie from the right side and crossed the ball into the opposite side of the net.
Lowery tacked on another goal before halftime at the 38:38 mark after he stripped a Davidson defender 30 yards away and beat the keeper to give Wake Forest a 3-0 advantage.
Bobby Gehring added one more goal in the second half to make it a 4-0 final. The play began on Ryan Alexander's shot from a sharp angle on the right side. The shot was cleared off the line but right into the path of the charging Gehring who one-touched the ball for the goal into an open net from eight yards away.
Goalkeeper William Hesmer needed to make three saves before yielding to Brad McEachern who put the finishing touches on the shutout.
Wake Forest will close the book on the regular season on Saturday at home against Georgia Southern on Senior Night. Kickoff at Spry Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m.
