Wake Forest senior defensive end Calvin Pace was named first team All-American today by the American Football Coaches Association.

Pace, 6-6 (Douglasville, GA), is the 14th first team All-American in Wake Forest history and the first since Ben Coleman and George Coghill in 1992.

??I??m very honored to be chosen as an All-American,?? Pace said. ??I give all the credit to my teammates and coaches. Because of them I have been fortunate enough to win some individual honors.??

Pace will leave Wake Forest as one of the most dominating defensive linemen in school history. He owns the Deacon career record for tackles for loss and he came within one of tying Michael McCrary for career sacks. This season Pace had 72 tackles, including 43 solo stops, in 11 games. He did not play in Wake??s 12th game of the season at Maryland after fracturing a bone in his leg in the 11th game of the season versus Navy. He led the Deacons with 21 tackles for loss and eight sacks.

Wake Forest completed the regular season 6-6. The Deacons are bowl-eligible and are awaiting a possible bowl invitation. Pace is expected to recover from his injury in two weeks, which means it is possible that he could play in a bowl game.

Pace, Florida State offensive lineman Brett Williams and Maryland linebacker E.J. Henderson were the only players from the ACC selected to the team.
