Melanie Schneider has signed a letter of intent to play women??s soccer at Wake Forest in the fall. A senior defender at McIntosh High in Peachtree City, GA, Schneider has earned seven varsity letters, including one in track, two in basketball and four in soccer. A three-time team MVP for the Chiefs, the second-ranked high school girl??s soccer team in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), Schneider is a three-time all-region team selection. She has led McIntosh High to the state finals two straight years and the semifinals the previous season.
"Melanie Schneider will start in wide defense for us as a freshman," said Wake Forest head coach Tony da Luz. "She is an impact player with tremendous speed and athleticism. A sure passer of the ball, she fits in well to our possession style of play. Melanie has played in many championship games with her McIntosh High school and Lightning Club Team, she knows pressure and how to win big games. Melanie will be an All-ACC candidate without a doubt. We are ecstatic to have her join us complimenting what is a solid 2002 team."
Also a member of Lightning 84 club team for the past eight years, Schneider is a two-year co-captain and has helped the squad to three consecutive state cup championships. Schneider also plays for Georgia??s state team in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) and has been selected for the Region III team the last three years as well.
An honor roll student at McIntosh High, Schneider made the National Honor Roll also.
