Sarah Kozey has signed a letter of intent to play women??s soccer at Wake Forest in the fall. An 18-year-old forward/midfielder from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Kozey has been a member of the Canadian National U-19 team since March 2001 and was recently selected for Canada??s U-19 World Cup squad. She played for the 2001 Canada Games team and has been a member of Nova Scotia??s Provincial team since the age of 12. The 2001-2002 Nova Scotia Female Soccer Athlete of the Year, Kozey is also a four-time Atlantic All-Star.
??Sarah Kozey is starting for the U-19 Canadian National team as a forward but can be equally effective in a wide midfield role,?? said Wake Forest head coach Tony da Luz. ??She will gain great experience this summer playing in the U-19 World Youth Championships in Canada, perfect preparation for her freshman season. She has great speed, is comfortable with the ball, can score goals and create them. Sarah is just tapping into her tremendous potential. We are ecstatic to have her join us, complimenting what is a solid 2002 team.??
Currently a member of the Athens United club team, Kozey spent five years with the Halifax City Wanderers. The MVP of the club all five years, Kozey led the squad to five provincial championships in the Nova Scotia Senior Women??s League (NSSL), two Maratime Championships, the 1998 Silver Medal at Nationals and a fourth place finish at the Canada Games. Kozey earned the ??Golden Boot?? in 2001 for leading the NSSL in scoring that season and she is a two-time league all-star.
An honor roll student at Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Kozey led the soccer team to three provincial championships and the basketball team to the 2000 provincial championship.
