Today's Sessions: Wake Forest put on the full pads for the first time for a two-hour morning session, then donned shells (helmets, shoulder pads and shorts) for the two-hour afternoon session. There was a limited amount of contact during the morning full-pad session as the players got used to hitting for the first time in nearly nine months. The majority of the afternoon session was spent on position groups and on special teams. Temperatures soared to 95 degrees during the afternoon workout.
Quoting Head Coach Jim Grobe: "The morning practice with pads was spirited, but as you might expect, a little sloppy. We were reserved today in terms of contact. We like our guys to get used to wearing the pads again, so they gradually ease into it. We'll try to turn them loose a couple of times each week, let everyone go at full speed, but that will be in spurts. You won't see us have any two- or three-hour practices of full contact when guys are tired and falling over eachother."
Quoting Quarterback Cory Randolph (#17): "I felt like practice went well, especially for the first time in pads. It was extremely hot out there, but we fought through it and worked hard. I thought it was a good day of practice."
(on having a year of experience under his belt): "The offense is much easier for me this year. I'm much more comfortable out there. Now, it's basically just reviewing what I already know."
Upcoming Practice Schedule: Wake Forest will practice at the same times tomorrow (9:15-11:15 am and 3:30-5:30 pm). Two-a-days are conducted daily (except Sundays) at those same times through Wednesday, Aug. 21. Wednesday and Saturday's morning practices will be held at Groves Stadium.
Fan Fest: The Wake Forest football team invites fans of all ages to Family Fun Fest at Groves Stadium on Saturday August 17 between 1:00-2:30 p.m. There will be no charge for admission. The event will give fans the opportunity to meet members of the 2002 Wake Forest football team. Fans are invited to bring their cameras to take pictures with their favorite players. Selected Demon Deacons will be available at autograph tables. Fans can get in the action by attempting field goals in the north endzone and additional players will be on hand to play catch.
