Four Deacons Named To Gridiron Classic Watch List

Florida Citrus Sports, host of the Rotary Gridiron Classic, has named four players from Wake Forest University to its initial watch list. The Rotary Gridiron Classic, a game that matches the top collegiate players from around the nation against those from Florida, will be played on January 25, 2003. Below is a player-by-player look at which Deacons made the Rotary Gridiron Classic Watch List.

Blake Henry, a 6'6", 301-pound guard from Towson, Md., played in all 11 games last season, earning eight starts. A preseason all-conference selection, Henry plays both right and left guard positiions.

Calvin Pace, 6'6", 260-pound defensive end from Douglasville, Ga., was a second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection last season. Pace recorded 62 tackles in 2001, including a team-best 10 sacks and 18 tackles for loss.

Montique Sharpe, a 6'3", 287-pound defensive tackle out of Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C., recorded 52 tackles, five sacks and seven tackles for loss in 2001. Sharpe has played in 22 consecuitve games, drawing 19 starts.

Tarence Williams, a 5'10", 178-pound tailback from Wilmington, N.C., was a second-team all-ACC selection last season. He finished the 2001 campaign ranked second in the ACC and 26th nationally in rushing, averaging 101.8 yards per game. He scored 10 touchdowns last season and has crossed the goal line 17 times in the last two seasons.

While the selection committee of the Rotary Gridiron Classic will release its initial watch list before the season begins, the committee will add players not on the initial list as the season progresses.
