WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Deacon SportsPage, a WFU athletics radio show featuring head football and basketball coaches Jim Grobe and Skip Prosser, kicks off the 2002-03 season this Wednesday, Aug. 21. The weekly show, which runs 7:00-8:30 p.m., takes place at Shorty's in the Benson Center on Wake's campus and is hosted by "Voice of the Deacons" Stan Cotten.
The show is broadcast statewide via several stations on the Wake Forest ISP Sports Network, and can be heard locally on WBRF 98.1 FM. Additionally, listeners can access the Deacon SportsPage broadcast through the WFU athletics website, www.WakeForestSports.com.
During the first half hour of each show (7:00-7:30), Cotten will have guest appearances by Deacon athletes and Olympic sport coaches. Tomorrow night's special guest will be senior quarterback James MacPherson. During football season, Grobe will join Cotten from 7:30-8:30 to discuss the team's progress, preview the upcoming game and answer questions from the audience, both in person and over the phone.
Listeners can call and ask questions by dialing 1-888-TALK-ISP (8255-477). The public is also invited to come out to Shorty's and participate in the show. Prizes and giveaways, courtesy of ISP Sports sponsors, will be presented.
The Deacon SportsPage takes place at Shorty's every Wednesday during football season. Next week (Aug. 28), Cotten and Grobe will broadcast from DeKalb, Ill., where the football team opens the 2002 season the following night against Northern Illinois. Shorty's will still be the gathering place for students and fans interested in listening and participating in the show.
