Friday??s Session: With less than one week until the opening kickoff, the Demon Deacon football squad took to the field for a late evening practice. The team was under the lights for two hours, practicing with clear skies and cooler conditions. The practice session mainly consisted of working with special teams and concentrating on the Deac??s kicking game. Coaches spent time polishing individual units, preparing them for next Thursday??s matchup against Northern Illinois.
Quoting Head Coach Jim Grobe: ??We had a good practice today. We??re kind of in our weekly schedule for practice now, so this was like a Monday night practice. We let the guys get their classes in and take labs and what not and we practice Monday nights. We came over this evening and had some of our freshmen who were involved in orientation this afternoon practice with us. We will come back tomorrow, on Saturday, and that will be like our Tuesday practice. It will be our biggest practice with full pads. Then they come in Monday after having Sunday off and hopefully will be ready for the game. Mostly what we did tonight was special teams. We are trying to polish our special teams, especially our kickers. Our kickoff coverage team got a little more work than they are used to and the rest was team work and polishing.??
On Thursday??s Scrimmage: ??The scrimmage yesterday was good. We didn??t get a lot of people banged up. Jax Landfried had a little bit of a thigh bruise, but he was back practicing today. I think by Thursday, excluding Tarence WIlliam, we should be good to go.??
Upcoming Practice Schedule: Wake Forest will practice from 3:45 to 6:45 on Saturday and will wrap up the weekend with Sunday off. The Deacs will begin Monday??s practice at 3:45 and end at 6:45. The final practice session before gameday will be conducted at 3:45 on Tuesday.
