Calvin Pace Named to Lombardi Watch List

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest senior defensive end Calvin Pace has been named to the 2002 Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List, as announced by the Executive Committee of the Rotary Lombardi Committee.
A total of 122 players nationwide comprise the updated version of the list. Voting to determine the 12 semifinalists for the 2002 honor will begin in early October and will be announced at the end of the month. The four finalists will be announced in mid-November and the winner will be revealed at the conclusion of the annual award dinner on December 11. This year??s gala event will be held on the floor of Houston??s new Reliant Stadium.
Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen and those defensive players who line up within five yards of the football. North Carolina??s Julius Peppers was the 2001 winner of the Lombardi Award.
Pace, from Douglasville, Ga. was a second-team All-ACC selection in 2001 and has been named to several preseason All-ACC squads. Pace recorded 10 sacks last season, tying the second-best season total in school history. He needs 10 more sacks to break the WFU career record of 30, set by current Baltimore Raven and two-time Pro Bowl pick Michael McCrary.
