WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest midfielder Brian Carroll was selected as a first team preseason All-American by Soccer America, the publication announced on Tuesday night.
Carroll, a junior from Springfield, Va., has spent each of the last two summers with the U.S. National Teams in his age group. This past summer, Carroll competed on the U-23 National Team in Italy, England and Portugal alongside MLS stars DaMarcus Beasley and Bobby Convey among others. On August 1, Carroll scored two goals against the Bolton Wanders, an English side.
Last season at Wake Forest, Carroll started all 21 games, was an All-South region performer and a second team All-ACC selection. He was the team's fourth-leading scorer with three goals and seven assists, including three against Charlotte to tie a school record.
"It's a great honor for Brian and for our program," head coach Jay Vidovich said. "It is a reflection of his effort with the national teams. We're looking forward to those experiences and success translating on the field with our team this fall."
Carroll is one of three ACC players on the 11-man team which is listed below.
