Deacs Shutout Ducks in Season Opener

The Wake Forest women??s soccer team kicked off the 2002 season defeating Oregon in the first game of the Florida State Nike Invitational Tournament. The 3-0 victory was the first action of the season for the Demon Deacons.
Freshman Sarah Kozey connected on an assist from Sarah Creighton to put the Deacs up 1-0 at the half. Wake tallied five shots in the first half while Oregon took four.
Wake goalie Erin Regan stopped scoring efforts by the Ducks twice in the game, while Oregon??s goalkeeper, Sarah Peters, tallied five saves.
During the second half, the Deacs attempted 12 shots and converted two into goals. A.B. Robbins and Sara Creighton scored with assists by Alli Hunt and Katie Johnson. Sarah Kozey totaled four shots for the game, while Katherine Winstead and Melanie Schneider had two apiece. Creighton, along with Alli Hunt and Joline Charlton each had a shot at the net.
The Deacs will face the Beavers of Oregon State on Sunday at 11:30 am in their second match up of the Florida State Nike Invitational. Live stats will be provided for fans on Wake??s website, www.wakeforestsports.com.
