Wake Forest Football Notes
- The Purdue Game
- Sept. 21, 2002
* Today's game captains are #77 Tyson Clabo and #53 Jamie Scott.
* Wake's win marks its first victory over Purdue in the series. The Boilermakers won the first three meetings, all of which have taken place in West Lafayette.
* Chris Barclay's 18-yard run for a touchdown was a career first for the true freshman, and tied his longest rush of the season. He is the first true freshman to score a TD for the Deacs since Anthony Young had three touchdowns (all passing) in the 2000 season.
* The last time Wake Forest found itself in a tie at halftime was on Oct. 27 of last season, when it was knotted 7-7 with Clemson at the break. Clemson went on to win that game, 21-14.
* Wake Forest continued its advantage in turnover ratio, committing one turnover to Purdue's five. Deacon CB Daryl Shaw recorded his second interception of the season; safety Warren Braxton recovered his second fumble of the season (after CB Eric King forced the fumble); and safety Dominic Anderson recovered his first career fumble, all in the first half. In the third quarter, bandit Caron Bracy forced his second fumble of the season and linebacker Jamaal Argrow recovered the ball, a career first. Later in the third quarter, linebacker Jamie Scott recovered his first career fumble.
* Fabian Davis' 48-yard reception which set up a Deacon touchdown was a career-long for the senior. It was also the second-longest pass completion of the season for James MacPherson.
* In 15 games played during the Jim Grobe era at Wake Forest, 12 have been decided by a touchdown or less. Today's game is the sixth in that stretch decided by three points or less.
