Women's Soccer Earns 100th All-Time Victory

The Wake Forest women's soccer program received its 100th all-time win, defeating the Spartans of UNCG 4-2. The victory moves the seventh-ranked Demon Deacons to 9-0 overall and their best start ever in the nine-year program history.
Wake Forest appeared first on the board within the first four minutes of action, with Katherine Winstead scoring on assists from Alli Hunt and Alena Thom. UNCG answered with two back-to-back goals, the first by Jennifer Kennedy at the 36:48 mark and the second by Cara Hammond at the 24:37 mark. Winstead tied the score on her seventh goal of the season with help from Gabi Lieb at the 35:23 mark. The score at the half was 2-2.
The Deacs came out strong in the second half, taking 10 shots to UNCG's one. Sophomore Meagan Mullins scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Joline Charlton to put Wake Forest up, 3-2, at the 50:11 mark of the half. The final goal of the night came from Sarah Kozey at the 67:25 mark on an assist from Winstead.
Wake outshot UNCG 23-10, including 16 shots on goal for the game. Winstead led the team with seven shots, followed by Katie Johnson, Melanie Schneider and Thom with two each. Wake Forest goalkeeper Erin Regan tallied three saves on the night as well.
Wake Forest hits the road this weekend to face conference-rival NC State. The game will be on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1:00 pm.
