After six straight home games, Wake Forest will travel to conference-rival NC State on Sept. 29. The game marks the 11th meeting between the Deacs and the Wolfpack, with the series tied at 5-5. Wake Forest has one the last five games of the series, including a 1-0 win at home on Sept. 28, 2001.
The Deacs look to improve to 2-0 in conference play, while the Wolfpack is seeking their first conference win.
Seventh-ranked Wake Forest (9-0) is coming off 4-2 victory over UNCG on Wednesday night. NC State (5-3) defeated High Point, 5-0, Wednesday night as well.
The Deacs?? 9-0 beginning is the best start of Tony da Luz??s six-year career at Wake Forest and best start since the program began in 1994.
Deacs defeat UNCG
The Wake Forest women's soccer program received its 100th all-time win, defeating the Spartans of UNC-Greensboro 4-2. The victory moves the seventh-ranked Demon Deacons to 9-0 overall - their best start in the nine-year history of the program.
Wake Forest appeared first on the board within the first four minutes of action, with Katherine Winstead scoring on assists from Alli Hunt and Alena Thom. UNCG answered with two back-to-back goals, the first by Jennifer Kennedy at the 36:48 mark and the second by Cara Hammond at the 24:37 mark. Winstead tied the score on her seventh goal of the season with help from Gabi Lieb at the 35:23 mark. The score at the half 2-2.
The Deacs came out strong in the second half, taking 10 shots to UNCG's one. Sophomore Meagan Mullins scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Joline Charlton to put Wake Forest up, 3-2, at the 50:11 mark of the half. The final goal of the night came from Sarah Kozey at the 67:25 mark on an assist from Winstead.
Wake outshot UNCG 23-10, including 16 shots on goal for the game. Winstead led the team with seven shots, followed by Katie Johnson, Melanie Schneider and Thom with two each. Wake Forest goalkeeper Erin Regan tallied three saves on the night as well.
NC State Wolfpack
NC State come into Sunday??s matchup against Wake Forest with a 5-3 record. The game against the Deacs will be the Wolfpack??s first conference match.
Victories this season for NC State include Kent State, 2-1, CS-Northridge, 4-0, Temple, 7-1, Liberty, 3-0, and High Point, 5-0. Losses come at the hands of Tennessee, 2-1, San Diego St., 3-1, and South Carolina, 1-0.
NC State will look to grab its first victory over Wake Forest since 1997, when the Wolfpack defeated the Deacs, 1-0, in Raleigh.
100 All-Time Victories
With the 4-2 victory over UNCG on Wednesday, the Wake Forest women??s soccer progam earned its 100th all-time victory. The program??s record now stands at 100-68-11 since beginning in 1994. The Deacs look to continue their perfect record of 9-0 on Sunday against NC State.
Blue-Collar Deacs
The 2002 women??s soccer squad has dubbed themselves as a ??blue-collar?? team and taken it to the next level. The Deacs know that it is going to take a lot of effort this year if they want to be successful. They have decided as a team to work hard and earn every goal.
??Our theme has been 'blue-collar'. This team is a blue-collar team; we're going to work through everything,?? stated Coach da Luz. ??They've created more opportunities for themselves through teamwork, pressure and trapping for goals than our prior teams have been able to do."
So far the efforts have paid off as the ??blue-collar?? Deacs are undefeated at 8-0 and beating opponents in every category.
Breaking Records
Junior Alena Thom tallied three assists against Elon (Sept. 3), setting a single-game record in that category. The record was most recently held by Katherine Winstead with two assists against Tulane on October 12, 2001.
Senior Joline Charlton is also looking to break several records this season. She currently is second in season points (24) and shots (71), third in goals (10) and fourth (7) in assists. In career records, Charlton ranks fourth in goals (20), points (53) and shots (146).
Wake in the ACC
As a team, Wake Forest leads the ACC in goals allowed per game with 0.62, first in goals against average with 0.62 and tied for first in shutouts with three. The Deacs are second in points per game, averaging 2.88 per contest and second in assists per game with 3.38.
Individually, the Deacs have several that appear in the statistical categories as well. Katherine Winstead is fifth in goals with five and fourth in points (14). Alena Thom is third in assists (5) and third in points with 15. Sarah Kozey ranks third, along with Thom and Winstead, in game-winning goals with two.
The Deacs vs. Opponents
Wake Forest has dominated the field this season, leading their opponents in every category. The Deacs have outshot opponents 164, including 92 shots on goal to their opponents?? 26. Wake has scored 27 goals on the season and only allowed seven. The Deacs have held opponents to 21 points while tallying 85. Wake has recorded 31 assists on the season as well.

Poll Appearances
After continuing its perfect record this past weekend, the Wake Forest women's soccer team climbed to the seventh spot in the NSCAA/adidas poll. The Demon Deacons held the eighth spot in the poll the previous week. The ranking equals the highest since Wake Forest was ranked seventh in 1999.
Wake Forest also appears in the top-10 in several other polls this week, jumping to seventh in Soccer Buzz, ninth in Soccer America and cracking the top-10 at the 10th spot in Soccer Times.
Injury Report
Senior Lindsey Griffin is out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury. She will receive a medical redshirt and return to competition next season for the Deacs.
Up Next: California and Sacramento State The Demon Deacons head to the West Coast to face UC-Berkeley and Sacramento State. Wake will match up agianst UC Berkeley (5-1-1) on Friday, Oct. 4 at 3:30pm PT and Sacramento State (1-6) on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1:00pm PT.
Getting To Spry Stadium At the I-40/Business-40 split, take Business-40 towards downtown Winston-Salem. Take the Cherry Street exit and proceed north through the downtown area. Cherry Street then becomes University Parkway. Continue past Joel Coliseum on the right and then bear left at the fork in the road. Approximately one mile past the Coliseum, take the Polo Road exit and make a left turn on Polo Road. Spry Stadium will be 1/2 mile ahead on the left. Turn left onto campus at the stoplight and take the first road to the right to access the parking lot. No parking pass is necessary.
