* Tonight's game captains for Wake Forest are #92 Montique Sharpe and #89 Ray Thomas.
* Senior quarterback James MacPherson entered the game needing just 14 yards to reach the career 3,000-yard passing mark, and did so on his first completion of the game, a 14-yarder to Jason Anderson. MacPherson becomes the 10th quarterback in Wake Forest history to reach that milestone.
* Three Deacon defenders recorded their first career interceptions when they all picked off Paul Troth passes in the first half -- sophomore cornerback Eric King, senior nose tackle Montique Sharpe, and junior cornerback Daryl Shaw. Shaw also added his first career fumble recovery and King added a second interception in the fourth quarter.
* Sophomore walk-on placekicker Matt Wisnosky scored his first field goal in his fourth career attempt - a 36-yarder near the end of the first quarter. Wisnosky missed one field goal and had another blocked in the season opener at NIU, then missed his first attempt against the Pirates.
* Red Zone Woes: The Deacs made it inside the East Carolina 20-yard line four times in the first half, but were only able to get one touchdown out of those four trips. WFU attempted field goals on the other three trips, converting on two of them.
* The Deacs have put points on the board in 16 of the last 18 quarters, dating back to the first half of the North Carolina game last Nov. 10.
* When James MacPherson hooked up with Jason Anderson for a 46-yard touchdown in the third quarter, it was the fourth-longest TD pass of MacPherson's career and the second-longest scoring toss for the duo. MacPherson and Anderson teamed up for a 64-yarder at Virginia.
* Tonight's attendance of 28,486 is the highest since last year's season opener (29,127) versus Appalachian State.
* Over the last six games, Wake Forest has scored 205 points. That is the most in a six-game stretch since the 1939-40 seasons.
* Wake Forest extends its streak to nine straight games decided by seven points or less. The Deacs are 5-4 in that stretch.
* In the first two games of the 2002 season, Wake's opponents have committed nine turnovers (four by NIU, five by ECU), while the Deacs have one, which was committed on special teams.
