Men's Golf Competes in Carpet Capital Collegiate This Weekend

The Wake Forest men??s golf team competes in its third tournament of the fall season when it travels to Rocky Face, Ga. this weekend for the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic. The three-day, 54-hole event is held at The Farm on a par 72, 6,906-yard layout. Play runs Friday, Oct. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 5 with 18 holes each day.

The 18-team field includes Auburn, Augusta State, Clemson, East Tennessee State, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, NC State, Oklahoma, Purdue, Southern California, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt and UNLV with Georgia Tech serving as host. Including Wake Forest (tied for 9th), the field includes six of the nation?? top 10 teams in the most recent coaches poll -- No. 1 Florida, No. 2 Clemson, No. 6 Texas, No. 8 Georgia and No. 9 UNLV.

In last year??s Carpet Capital, the Demon Deacons placed 11th, its lowest finish of the season. Clemson is the defending champion.

Deacon senior Bill Haas will look to defend his individual title at this weekend??s event. Haas tied with Georgia Tech senior Troy Matteson at 11-under 205 to share medalist honors. With a first-place finish already this season (at The Ridges), Haas has pocketed six career individual titles. Through two events this fall Haas has a 69.8 stroke average.

Also competing for Wake Forest are junior Doug Manchester, sophomore Kyle Reifers and a pair of freshmen, Sean Moore and Chad Wilcox. Reifers was WFU??s top finisher in the team??s last event, The Preview, as he placed a career-best fifth (+1).
