Greensboro, N.C. - Junior forward Scott Sealy scored two first half goals to lead third-ranked Wake Forest past UNC Greensboro in a 2-0 road win Saturday night. The win was the tenth straight for the Demon Deacons to tie a school record, originally set in 1989.
The goals for Sealy were his 10th and 11th of the season. Sealy and NC State's Aaron King are tied for the Atlantic Coast Conference in that category.
Fifth-year senior Brad McEachern started in goal for the injured William Hesmer. It was McEachern's sixth career start. He made two saves for his first shutout of the season and the fourth of his career.
The Demon Deacons shut out their fourth straight opponent. Wake Forest has blanked North Carolina, Duke, Davidson and UNC Greensboro in succession for a shutout streak of more than 279 minutes.
Sealy's first goal was scored in the 22nd minute with assists to Tomy Szczypiorski and Justin Moose. About ten minutes later, Sealy converted on a penalty kick to increase Wake Forest's lead to two.
Wake Forest finished the regular season with a 14-3 record. UNC Greensboro slid to 9-7-2. Both teams now move on to their respective conference tournaments. As the tournament's number two seed, the Demon Deacons begin their quest for an ACC championship on Wednesday against Duke. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at the SAS Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C.
