Wake Forest Postgame Quotes
Dec. 21, 2003 -- vs. East Carolina
Head Coach Charlene Curtis
On the team's effort and energy level:
"We played the same defense from the beginning to the end, but the difference there for a stretch in the second half was our energy level. We did not bring that from the beginning of the game. East Carolina played harder and flat deserved to win the game."
On the game:
"Free throws and turnovers. We did not rebound the ball well enough and when we did, we were not able to convert on those chances."
"We were obviously not ready to play today. You can talk all you want about four games in eight days but we just did not play hard enough. You want to go home feeling good about yourself, but after today's game, we will not."
On Porsche' Jones: "Porsche' played much better in the second half and she stepped up in some situations where we needed her, but she is not the player that should be needed to step up in those situations. Liz and Tonia were in foul trouble throughout the game and that hurt their effectiveness. "
Redshirt Freshman Porsche' Jones
On today's game:
"We know to take one game at a time and not look ahead. We haven't played a full 40 minutes in a game this season. The team with the better effort won tonight and now we have to look forward to the important games after the break."
On free throws:
"Personally, I went three for six and if I make my free throws, we probably win the game. We just have to put it behind us and get in the gym."
On her career high 12 points:
"We started slow and I didn't think the team was focused on the game today. We were more focused on going home than playing today and I just tried to do anything I could to keep us in the game, whether it was to hit shots or encourage my teammates."
Junior Erin Ferrell
On her career-high 18 points: "My teammates fed me the ball well. The three guards, Tonia, Cotelia, and Porsche did a great job of getting me the ball today. I was hesitating at first, but when I stopped hesitating, I was more effective."
On the difference between the first half and second half:
"Attitude was definitely the difference. We didn't start the game in sync. In the second half, we decided to be tougher and more aggressive."
On playing four games in eight days:
"No, the four games in eight days was not a factor. There are no excuses for the way we played today."
