Wake Forest Postgame Notes & Quotes
Dec. 30, 2003 -- vs. North Carolina A&T

Wake Forest Head Coach Skip Prosser
On the game:
"Give credit to Coach Eaves and their kids. It gave us a lot of things to work on in our never-ending effort to become a better basketball team."

On WFU's early struggles:
"You can think of a myriad of excuses. I don't think we took bad shots but we need to get back in the gym and work on it and we'll get better."

On Eric Williams:
"Eric has been pretty consistent throughout the season. I think it's just the tip of the iceberg of what type of player he can be. He's going to continue to get better. In a performance tonight that was much more staccato than free-flowing, I thought he was outstanding."

On Chris Ellis:
"We've had a lot of injuries. Guys have to be ready when called upon to play. It was Chris's first public display and he'll only get better."

Wake Forest Junior Taron Downey
On the layoff between games:
"We weren't worried about the layoff. We knew we needed to come out and play basketball just like we have always done."

On the outside shooting woes:
"We just weren't hitting them. I give a lot of credit to North Carolina A&T. We had great looks and took good shots, but they just didn't fall in tonight. The second half was better than the first."

Wake Forest Sophomore Eric Williams
On the layoff between games:
"A&T came out with fire and we weren't expecting it. We haven't felt the passion of the game for a while and to see that they weren't scared took us by surprise."

On the game: "We were shooting too much and taking bad shots, especially in the first half. In the second half, we stepped it up and did what we needed to do."

Wake Forest Sophomore Trent Strickland
On the game:
"They didn't surprise us, but they came out harder than us and I don't know if we reacted well to that. We played harder than them in the second half, and it showed. They are a good team; their coach is good; but our intensity was better, especially in the second half."

On rebounding:
"Coaches told us that in rebounding, it's all about how much heart you have. And we need more heart."

North Carolina A&T Head Coach Jerry Eaves
On playing a stronger opponent such as WFU:
"From the beginning it was obvious that Wake is a very very good team. We understand that wasn't their 'A' team tonight. But our team competed well. Our goal was to get to 70 points and we got close."

On his team's improvement:
"We're continuing to get better. We only scored 39 points in our first game and we're slowly inching our way up. Hopefully in four or five years we'll be able to come in here with a higher level of athletes."

On Wake Forest:
"I believe they'll have problems if they run into a team who can rebound the ball. When they play quality talent and people crash the boards and run against them, it will give them more of a challenge."
