Duke head coach Gail Goestenkors
On first ACC win:
"We are happy to come away with a win. It was exciting to begin ACC competition. Wake did a good job, especially disrupting our offense. We are overall pleased with our first ACC game and the intensity that we brought. We have been ready to play, and it has shown with great practices these past few days. We came here wanting to make a statement."
On where Duke is after first part of season:
"We are at a good place right now, but would like to be more healthy. We are no where near to what we will be like later in this season. We still need to learn the system, and I am looking to improve."
Duke senior forward Iciss Tillis
On why the margin of victory was so large:
"Mostly I think it was just that we played well and had great team defense. We came in with a lot of motivation. We really wanted to prove something with our first ACC game of the year."
Duke senior guard Alana Beard
Assessment of the team's performance:
"Well, it's still early in the season and I think there is a lot of room for improvement with our team defense. Our goal is to be the top rebounding team in the nation, so we need to work on that as well. Overall we just need to focus on rebounding and defense."
On the team's intensity:
"Coach's technical foul really got us pumped up. I think that was her first one in the entire four years that I have been here. It really gave us a lot of motivation when we were starting to drag. Intensity was one of our goal's before the game and I think we did a pretty good job with it tonight."
On the team's preparation:
"We set goals before every game that we want to accomplish. With this being the first ACC game of the year, we really wanted to come out and make a statement."
Wake Forest head coach Charlene Curtis
On the game:
"We truly did play against a Duke team that is a top-four team. You have to give a lot of credit to them, we couldn't play with them tonight. I can't be upset with our effort, we simply got off to a bad start. We didn't execute in our half court, and we had trouble rebounding the ball. It's a long season. We will take this break (for finals) then start over again after. When we look at the tape (of the game), we will take the positive things from this game, and learn from what we did right."
On the rebounding discrepancy:
"(Duke) was bigger than us at all five positions, and we need to rebound with positioning. We didn't attack the backboard until the end of the game. They did a good job shooting over 50% from the floor, but still, we need to get our rebounds through positioning."
Wake Forest junior Erin Ferrell
On rebounding:
"I just want to start by saying that as a whole we are going to start holding ourselves accountable on the court, such as rebounding. I had one rebound and to be a four, that is unacceptable. We are going to hold ourselves accountable from now on."
On five-of-seven shooting:
"My teammates were just giving me the ball in a good position. Our wings have really improved on getting the ball into the post, so I just give the credit to my teammates."
On what the team can take from the loss:
"There are a lot of positives that we can take, but the most important is that we didn't quit, and we continued to play hard."
