Winston-Salem, N.C. - 2003 Wake Forest adidas Women's Soccer Classic MVP A.B. Robbins scored the game's only goal at the 77:54 mark of the second-half to lead the Demon Deacons past Oregon State, 1-0, in women's college soccer action Sunday afternoon.
"Oregon State was another tough opponent," said Wake Forest head coach Tony Da Luz. "They gave us all we could handle. We did not pass the ball well, but we managed to stick it out in the end. We showed a lot of character. A.B Robbins (tournament MVP) worked so hard all game - and weekend. She deserved the MVP honor."
Sarah Kozey gained possession of a loose ball inside the Oregon State penalty box and slotted a pass to the near post. Robbins beat the Beaver defender to the ball and re-directed it into the back of the net. It was her second goal of the season.
Robbins nearly gave Wake Forest an early lead just 10-minutes into the match, but her shot from 12-yards out bounced off the cross bar. That was the only good scoring chance for either team in the first-half.
The teams entered halftime scoreless, but the Deacs' defense put a clamp on the Oregon State attack for much of the afternoon. The Beavers managed just five shots, only one the entire second-half. Kenna Healy made three saves for Wake Forest en route to her fourth shutout of the campaign.
Robbins, who added the game winning goal against Washington State on Friday night, joined Alli Hunt, Healy and Kozey as the Wake Forest representatives on the all-tournament team.
In Sunday's earlier match, Washington State upset #10 Duke, 1-0. The Cougars and Blue Devils each went 1-1 in the tournament.
Wake Forest will return to action September 19 at UNC Greensboro. Kickoff at UNCG Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
