Norfolk, Va. - The fifth-ranked Wake Forest men's soccer team was defeated 2-0 at sixth-ranked Old Dominion on Sunday afternoon. The Deacons had not been shutout by a non-conference team since the 2001 NCAA Tournament, a stretch of 17 games.
Old Dominion scored both their goals in the second half of the contest. The Monarchs scored the game's first goal in the 66th minute and tacked on another in the 89th minute for the victory.
The Monarchs outshot the Deacons 13-11. Wake Forest earned nine corner kicks in the second half alone but couldn't convert on its opportunities.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday but was postponed. More than one million people, including those on the Old Dominion campus, were still without electrical power in the wake of Hurricane Isabel.
The Deacons continue to play away from Spry Stadium, travelling to top-ranked Maryland next weekend. Kickoff next Saturday in College Park is set for 7:00 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
