Men's Golf Tied For Fourth at The Preview

HOT SPRINGS, Va. - The Wake Forest men??s golf team is in a tie for fourth place after 18 holes of The Preview, held at the The Cascades course at The Homestead, site of the 2004 NCAA Championships. The Demon Deacons are competing against 14 other teams, 13 of which are ranked in the preseason top 15.
Due to approaching inclement weather, the 54-hole event was shortened to 36 holes, 18 each on Monday and Tuesday.
Wake Forest, ranked sixth nationally, is tied with the University of Florida at 12-over par through the first round. Defending national champion and top-ranked Clemson leads the field at +7, while Augusta State is second at 10-over. North Carolina is in third place, just one stroke ahead of the Deacs and Gators.
WFU sophomore Kyle Reifers is in a tie for second place individually after shooting a one-under 69 on Monday. Reifers recorded three birdies, on the par-5 5th, 16th, and 17th holes. Reifers and Clemson??s Gregg Jones sit one stroke back of field leader Kevin Silva of North Carolina, who turned in a 68.
Senior Bill Haas finished the day with a one-over 71 and is tied for sixth place. Haas carded three birdies on Nos. 3, 9 and 12 -- all par 4s. Freshman Chad Wilcox is tied for 28th with a four-over 74. Wilcox had the team??s highest number of birdies (6), but also counted three doubles in his opening round.
Another Deacon freshman, Sean Moore, is tied for 61st at eight-over. Sophomore Barr Blanton, competing in his first collegiate event, turned in a nine-over 79 and is tied for 68th.

The final round of The Preview gets underway Tuesday morning. The Demon Deacons, paired with Arizona and Florida, will tee from No. 1 beginning at 8:15 a.m.
