Winston-Salem, N.C. - After a pair of wins this past weekend over #12 California and #5 Pepperdine, the Wake Forest women's soccer team not only cracked the top-25, but vaulted into the top-10. The Demon Deacons found themselves ninth in the Soccer America poll and 10th in the NSCAA/adidas poll.
Since opening the season with a scoreless draw against #8 Connecticut and defeat to #6 Notre Dame, Wake Forest has rattled off seven consecutive matches. In those outings, the Demon Deacons have allowed just three goals, recorded four shutouts and outscored their opponents by 16 goals.
The top-10 ranking is not only the first of the 2003 season, but is also the highest for Wake Forest since midway through last season. The Deacs' opened the 2002 campaign with nine straight wins, climbing as high as sixth in any national poll.
Wake Forest was also ranked 14th and 16th in this week's SoccerTimes and Soccer Buzz polls respectively.
The Demon Deacons will look for their eighth consecutive victory Wednesday night as East Carolina makes its way to Spry Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
