Some 20 former Demon Deacon men's basketball players will participate Saturday in the Wake Forest Alumni Basketball Game. The event is scheduled for Reynolds Gym at 5:30 p.m. (following the WFU-NC State football game). There will be no admission charge.
Among the former Deacons who have committed to play are Rusty LaRue, Delaney Rudd, Robert Siler, Alley Hart, Craig Dawson and Antwan Scott. Tyrone "Muggsy" Bogues is a possible addition to the roster. The current Deacon coaching staff will coach the two teams and the current Wake Forest team will be present.
The Alumni Game highlights a weekend of activities for the former players. There is a dinner scheduled for Friday night and a tour of the Deacons' new facilities on Saturday morning.
"Wake Forest owns a tremendous basketball history," Demon Deacon head coach Skip Prosser said. "We want everyone who ever put on a black and gold uniform to remain a part of the Wake Forest basketball family."
Hart was a key starter on Wake's 1961 ACC championship team, teaming with Billy Packer and Len Chappell to lead the Deacons to the NCAA quarterfinals.
LaRue is one of the all-time great overall athletes in ACC history. He excelled in football, breaking several school passing records, basketball and baseball. LaRue was also an Academic All-American.
Rudd was a standout on Deacon teams from 1982-85, including the 1984 team that upset fourth-ranked DePaul in the NCAA Tournament.
Siler was an outstanding guard who began his career under coach Bob Staak, then helped usher in the Dave Odom era.
