Wake Forest and the Pirates have met four times in the all-time series. The Demon Deacons have captured each of those four meetings by an aggregate score of 16-2. Wake Forest won the last meeting, 4-1, on Aug. 29, 2000. In addition to ECU, the Deacs have faced other Conference USA members' Charlotte, Tulane and Louisville. Wake Forest owns an all-time record of 13-0-1 against teams from C-USA.

Last Time Out
Colorado Springs, Colo. -- Senior midfielder Katherine Winstead scored the game's only goal in the 36th minute of play lifting Wake Forest to a thrilling 1-0 victory over #5 Pepperdine in women's college soccer action at Colorado College's Stewart Field.
Standing just outside the top of the box, Winstead took a pass from freshman forward Kaitlyn Doe and fired a rocket toward the Pepperdine goal. The ball sailed into the upper left corner beyond the outstretched arms of leaping Waves goalie Anna Picarelli.
In the second half, the Demon Deacons (7-1-1) withstood a frenzy of activity in front of their own goal. Pepperdine (8-2-0) took four corner kicks and missed the net with two headers from directly in front.
Demon Deacon goalkeeper Kenna Healy and the rest of the WFU defense prevailed. Healy faced 20 shots on the afternoon and registered four saves. The junior netminder picked up her fifth shutout of the season.
The Wake Forest victory is the second straight against an opponent ranked in the top-25. The Deacs' edged #12 California, 2-1, on Friday afternoon. In fact, the Deacs are now 2-1-1 this season against ranked foes. Wake Forest opened the season with a scoreless draw against #8 Connecticut before losing to #6 Notre Dame.
The victory also extended the Wake Forest winning streak to seven matches. The streak is the third longest active streak in the nation.
The goal was just the fourth that Pepperdine has allowed all season. The loss also snapped the Waves eight-match winning streak.
Scouting The Pirates
East Carolina enters this non-conference matchup sporting a 5-3-2 record overall and 2-1-1 in C-USA. The Pirates split their two-game conference road trip this weekend. ECU opened the weekend with a tough 3-0 loss at Tulane on Fri., Sept. 26. The Pirates returned on Sun., Sept. 28 and edged Houston, 3-2.
Sophomore Meghan McCallion leads the ECU scoring attack. The forward has scored seven goals through the first 10 games. McCallion has also registered one assist for a total of 15 points. Sophomore Rachelle Cabeceiras and freshman Anastasia Nikas are next on the Pirate scoring list. Cabeceiras has scored four goals and recorded one assist, while Nikas has tallied one goal and added a team-high six assists. Lindsi Troxler, another sophomore, has played the majority of time between the pipes. Troxler has started eight of the Pirates' 10 matches. She has registered two shutouts and recorded a 1.20 goals against average.
Last Meeting
Greenville, N.C. -- The Wake Forest University women's soccer team, ranked 12th in the nation, defeated East Carolina, 4-1, at Bunting Field on Aug. 29, 2000. Junior forward Stacy Roeck led the Demon Deacons with two goals.
The Deacs picked apart the Pirate defense, outshooting ECU 16-2. Roeck blasted a shot from the top of the penalty box into the upper left corner of the goal, opening the scoring in the 20th minute. She was assisted by Joline Charlton. Charlton found Roeck again seven minutes later for the game-winning goal. The score remained 2-0 for the remainder of the half.
Emily Taggart put away a cross from freshman A.B. Robbins midway through the second half to put Wake up 3-0. Kim Sandhoff beat Deacon goalkeeper Leslie Goelz for the Pirates only goal at the 70 minute mark. Charlton added the fourth and final Wake Forest goal with a minute left in the match assisted by Taggart.
Deacs Leap Into Top-10
With their two wins this weekend over #12 California and #5 Pepperdine, Wake Forest not only cracked the top-25, but vaulted into the top-10. The Demon Deacons found themselves ninth in the Soccer America poll and 10th in the NSCAA/adidas poll.
What A Weekend
The Demon Deacons picked up a pair of victories over top-20 foes this past weekend at Colorado College. Wake Forest opened the weekend with a victory over #12 California, before taking down #5 Pepperdine. It marked the first time since the 1996 season that the Deacs registered back-to-back wins over ranked opponents.
Wake Forest Gets Revenge on California
Wake Forest entered last season's matchup with California unbeaten (9-0-1) and ranked #6. Unfortunately, the Golden Bears ended the Deacs' streak with a 1-0 victory. Wake Forest was able to return the favor this past weekend. California entered the match with the Deacs on Friday unbeaten (3-0-3), but suffered their first loss.
Healy Named ACC Player of the Week
Junior goalkeeper Kenna Healy was named ACC Women's Soccer Player of the Week after leading the Demon Deacons to victories over #12 California and #5 Pepperdine. The Wilmington, Del., native picked up a pair of saves in the Deacs' 2-1 victory over the Golden Bears on Friday. Healy then recorded her fifth shutout of the season two days later versus the Waves. In the 1-0 triumph over Pepperdine, Healy faced 20 shots and tallied four saves. Healy has logged all 830-minutes between the pipes for Wake Forest, registering a 0.65 goals against average.
Deacs Own UNC Greensboro
With their 3-1 victory last Friday night, Wake Forest captured its sixth straight victory over the Spartans. In fact, the Deacs' have won all six meetings with their local rival.
That's Five Straight
The victory also secured the fifth consecutive win for Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons' last winning streak of five games or more occurred last season when they opened the season with nine straight victories. Wake Forest also posted a six-match winning streak during the 2001 season.
Two More Ranked Opponents
Wake Forest will face its second set of ranked opponents during the same weekend. The Deacs' traveled to Storrs, Conn. for the adidas Soccer Classic to open the season and faced then #8 UConn and #6 Notre Dame.
Back-to-Back Wins Over Pac-10 Foes
Wake Forest picked up a pair of wins against Washington State and Oregon State over the weekend of Sept. 12-14. It marked the second consecutive year that the Demon Deacons recorded back-to-back victories over a team from the Pac-10. Wake Forest defeated Oregon and Oregon State on Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 of 2002.
Healy Blanks Another Foe
Kenna Healy picked up her fourth shutout of the 2003 season against Oregon State on Sept. 14. The junior goalkeeper has now registered three shutouts in the past four games. In fact, Healy has allowed only one goal in the last 360-minutes.
Deacons Finally Surrender a Goal
Wake Forest recorded back-to-back shutouts of Liberty and Davidson. The Demon Deacons then held Washington State without a goal over the first 54:20 of the match on Sept. 12. The Cougars' second-half goal snapped the Wake Forest string of 234:20 without surrendering a goal.
Robbins Named Wake Forest adidas Classic MVP
A.B. Robbins scored the game winning goal against Washington State and Oregon State en route to the MVP of the 2003 Wake Forest adidas Women's Soccer Classic. Robbins has now scored 11 career goals - six of which have been the game winning variety.
Sarah Kozey Closes Quite a Week
Sarah Kozey opened the week with a pair of assists in the 5-0 shutout of Davidson on Sept. 9. Kozey then scored one goal and assisted on the other to lead the Demon Deacons past Washington State, 2-1, on Sept. 12. The sophomore then picked up the game winning assist in the 1-0 victory over Oregon State on Sept. 14.
Wake Forest Blankets Liberty & Davidson
The Demon Deacons allowed just five total shots in the two shutout victories over Liberty and Davidson. Wake Forest registered 37 shots over the same span.
Balanced Scoring Downs Davidson
Wake Forest had five different players score goals in the 5-0 drubbing of Davidson on Sept. 9. It marked the first game since the Deacs' 6-0 shutout of Liberty on Oct. 30, 2001 that five Wake Forest players scored in a single-game.
Remy Ends Drought
Wake Forest went scoreless over the first 205:21 of the season, but Elizabeth Remy ended the drought with a pair of goals in the first-half of the 5-0 whitewash of Liberty on Sept. 4.
Remy and Toombs Each Net Two
Elizabeth Remy and Taylor Toombs each scored a pair of goals to lead Wake Forest over Liberty, 5-0, on Sept. 4. It marked the first time in Demon Deacon history that a pair of freshmen tallied two goals in a single-game.
Healy Continues To Shine
Junior goalkeeper Kenna Healy registered her second shutout of the season against Liberty on Sept. 4. Healy has recorded three shutouts in her first five career starts.
Back-to-Back Top-10 Foes
The Demon Deacons always play a schedule full of nationally ranked opponents, but the weekend of Aug. 29-31 was the first time since the 2001 season that Wake Forest faced consecutive foes ranked in the top-10. Wake Forest faced #7 Santa Clara and #5 Portland at the 2001 Wake Forest adidas Soccer Classic.
Scoring Drought
Wake Forest failed to score a single goal over the first 205:21 of the 2003 campaign. It also marked the first time since the first two games of the 2001 season (9.3 vs Georgia/9.9 vs Santa Clara) that the Deacs were blanked in consecutive outings.
Healy Shines In Third Career Start
Kenna Healy was a definite bright spot for Wake Forest in the scoreless tie with #8 UConn on Aug. 29. In her third career start, the junior registered 10 saves on the night - including three in the second overtime session.
Newcomers Already In The Fold
Wake Forest wasted little time throwing its freshmen class into the mix. The Deacons had three freshmen (Keisha Garrick, Elizabeth Remy, Lindsey Jaco) in the starting lineup for both games at the UConn adidas Women's Soccer Classic. In addition, Wake Forest's first four substitutes in each match were freshman (Taylor Toombs, Tara Caldwell, Kaitlyn Doe, Tracie Abbott).
New Faces ... Same Expectations
The word "rebuilding" has been tossed around by some outside the Wake Forest women's soccer program in regards to the upcoming 2003 season. With the loss of seven seniors - including five starters - some might think that is the case, but with the addition of 13 talented freshmen and the return of 11 letterwinners the Deacons will make another run at the NCAA Tournament.
Deacons Picked Seventh
Wake Forest was picked seventh in the 2003 ACC Women's Soccer Coaches Poll. North Carolina was the odds-on-favorite according to the coaches. The Tar Heels garnered seven of the eight first place votes. Virginia received the only other first place vote. The Cavaliers were chosen second, followed by Florida State, Clemson, Maryland, Duke, the Deacons and NC State.
Healy Takes Over Between Pipes
After two seasons behind Erin Regan, Healy will open the 2003 season as the starting goalkeeper for the Deacons. The junior has played in just five games over her first two seasons.
Lucky Number 13
Wake Forest welcomes 13 freshmen - the largest freshman class in the history of the program - in 2003.
Robbins Moves Up
Senior A.B. Robbins developed into one of the better marking backs in the entire ACC over the past three seasons, but Robbins will push up into an attacking role this season. Robbins, who scored five goals from the back last season, gives Wake Forest some much needed size and strength in the attacking third.
WFU Lands 26th Best Recruiting Class
Not only was the 2003 recruiting class the largest in Wake Forest history, but it was also recognized by SoccerBuzz Magazine as the 26th best in the entire country.
