A Wake Forest Win...
- Moves WFU's all-time record to 368-553-34 and all-time ACC record to 95-238-5.
- Is WFU's first win over a nationally-ranked team since Nov. 20, 1999 when it defeated No. 14 Georgia Tech, 26-23.
- Is Wake's first win over NC State since 1999, which was also over a nationally-ranked (No. 25) Wolfpack squad.
- Marks the third straight season WFU has won its home opener.
- Gives the Deacs a 32-59-6 record all-time against NC State.
- Is its first victory in its ACC opener since a 29-19 win over Clemson in 1998.
A Little Trickery
Wake Forest's third touchdown of the day was set up by a 42-yard pass from wide receiver Nate Morton to quarterback Cory Randolph. It was the first career stat for Morton, who redshirted the 2002 season as a quarterback before moving to wide receiver this past spring.
Burney Adds Two
With two touchdowns -- both in the first half -- Nick Burney doubled his touchdown total from all of last season and crossed the endzone for the first time since last year's Duke game (10/12/02). He now has five career scores.
Willie Idlette Scores Second TD
Redshirt freshman Willie Idlette scored his second touchdown in as many games on a 50-yard punt return against the Wolfpack. This follows up the 75-yarder last week at Boston College. Idlette has averaged 62.5 yards on his two scoring plays.
In The Kicking Department
Matt Wisnosky handled all kickoffs, while Ryan Plackemeier handled field goals, extra points and punts.
Moroz Returns Earlier Than Expected
Senior offensive tackle Mark Moroz returned to action against NC State, marking an early return from an MCL injury suffered on August 16. The initial prognosis was 4-6 weeks. Today marks 3 1/2 weeks since the injury, and Moroz has been practicing since Tuesday.
Deacs Pick Off Rivers Twice
In the three previous meetings, Wake Forest had never picked off NC State quarterback Philip Rivers. On Saturday they did it twice. Junior defensive lineman Jerome Nichols recorded his first career interception when he batted a Philip Rivers pass high in the air then caught it in the first quarter. Cornerback Eric King recorded his fourth career INT in the third quarter. Georgia Tech (2000 and '01), FSU (3 in 2000) and Maryland (2002) are the only other ACC teams who have had more than one pick versus Rivers.
The last time WFU had two interceptions in a game was last November 23 versus Navy, when Warren Braxton grabbed both. The Deacs did not have any interceptions last week at Boston College.
