Willie Idlette Named Freshman All-America

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest wide receiver/kick returner Willie Idlette has been named to the Scripps/Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America Team, as announced by the organization this week.
Idlette, a redshirt freshman from Chattanooga, Tenn. received recognition at the all-purpose position. Idlette finished the season second on the Deacon squad with 1,109 all-purpose yards (92.4 ypg), a figure which also led all ACC freshman and ranked 11th in the league overall. He was also the ACC's top rookie (fifth overall) in punt returns, averaging 7.0 yards per return with one touchdown.
The 27-member Scripps/FWAA team was selected by an 11-man committee representing each of the NCAA's Division I-A football conferences.
Idlette was one of four ACC players named to the team, as he joined by NC State offensive lineman Leroy Harris and defensive lineman Mario Williams as well as Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks.
Idlette becomes the second Wake Forest freshman to receive national recognition for his performance in the 2003 season. Offensive lineman Steve Vallos was named a third-team Freshman All-America by The Sporting News last month.
