Wake Forest Postgame Quotes
January 9, 2004 / vs. Maryland
Wake Forest head coach Charlene Curtis
On the game:
"Today was not a good day for us. I thought we were fortunat to be tied at halftime with the way we played. Our energy level was low and we were not focused. Maryland is a great team as well."
"Today's game was a lost opportunity. It is still early, but you have to win at home in this league."
On the Maryland trap:
"They played very good defense and helped each other quite well also. The 1-2-2 zone really got us out of sync, but it was our lack of execution. Our decision making was poor today and we just did not play well."
On the hault of momentum after today:
"The NC State win was a big step for our team and our program, but I was concerned about our energy level coming out today. That was my responsibility and we were not at the energy level we needed to be at today."
On the 11 am tip-off:
"I thought Maryland handled the early start better than we did. Part of the problem is that our players often feed on the other team's crowd and we struggled with not getting energy from our fans."
Wake Forest sophomore forward Liz Strunk
On the game:
"They went on runs and we just did not respond well. Our team had silly turnovers. I know that I did. We definitely should have won this game."
On the Maryland trap:
"We did not respond well to their 1-2-2 trap. And, we will work on breaking it down in practice. We should have done better and that part of the game was frustrating."
On gaining confidence:
"We need to learn how to gain confidence from our wins. This is just a frustrating loss for us today."
