Today's Captains: Warren Braxton and Steve Vallos were the Wake Forest captains. NC State won the toss and elected to defer.
For Starters: Nate Morton started his third straight game at wide receiver in place of the injured Jason Anderson. Arby Jones made his first start of the year, the second of his career, at left guard in place of Joe Salsich. Micah Andrews made his first career start - it came at fullback.
Eric King started his 37th straight game, Caron Bracy made his 36th straight start, Brad White started for the 30th straight game and Ryan Plackemeier made his 25th straight start.
Down The Wire (Again): Twenty-one of Jim Grobe's 41 games as Wake Forest's head coach, and two of the four against NC State, have been decided by seven points or less.
Deacons Squander Halftime Lead: Wake Forest was previously 3-0 when leading at halftime.
Plack Attack: Ryan Plackemeier's 65-yard punt in the first quarter was the fifth punt of 60 yards or more, the 32nd 50-plus yard boot of his career,
McGruder Takes It To The House: Marcus McGruder's 22-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter was the second of his career, and the second in a three-game span. He returned one against North Carolina A&T in the second quarter. McGruder has accounted for both Wake Forest defensive touchdowns this year.
You Can Put It On The Board... Yeeessss!!!!: With McGruder's touchdown, Wake Forest has scored first in each of its five games this year and nine of its last 11 dating back to last year.
Allowing a 100 Yard Rusher: T.A. McLendon became the first Deacon opponent to rush for more than 100 yards against the Deacon defense.
Andrews Gets In The Endzone: Micah Andrews' 1-yard plunges in the second and fourth quarters were his fourth and fifth career touchdown runs. His 42-yard run in the fourth quarter was a career-long.
Thompson Records First Career Sack: Jeremy Thompson earned his first career quarterback sack just moments before halftime.
First Half Defense: For the third time in five games this year, the Deacons held their opponent to a scoreless first half. Wake Forest has outscored its opponents in the first half 86-26 this season.
Moving The Chains: NC State, ranked as the nation's top defense, was allowing only 165 yards per game. Wake Forest totaled 180 yards in the first half.
The Longest Yards: The 57 yard touchdown pass from Jay Davis to Sterling Hicks was the longest pass by a Deacon opponent this season.
Third Quarter Stumble: Wake Forest has allowed 17 points in the third quarter all year. NC State scored 21 points in the third quarter today, the first time the Deacons had allowed that many points in a quarter since last year's season finale (Maryland, 22, 3rd quarter).
King Leaves With a Mild Concussion: On the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter, Eric King suffered a mild concussion. He did not return.
