Thompson Blocks Field Goal Attempt...
Making his first career start, Jeremy Thompson blocked a first quarter field goal attempt by Xavier Beitia. It was the second block by the Deacons this season. Jerome Nichols blocked a field goal against East Carolina.
Sacks For Brax...
Warren Braxton's first quarter sack was the first of the season for him, and the second of his career (vs. Ga. Tech in 2003).
Robinson Returns For a Touchdown...
Matt Robinson's 19-yard return for a touchdown was his first career interception and his first career touchdown. It was also Wake Forest's third interception return for a touchdown this season (two by McGruder). On the first quarter interception, Sexton was hurried by Jerome Nichols who also tipped the pass.
First Quarter Defense...
Wake Forest has blanked its opponents in the first quarter five times in seven games this season.
King, White Combine For Second Defensive Score...
Eric King's sack and subsequent fumble led to Brad White's 36-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown was Wake's second defensive score of the game, fourth of the season. It was White's second career touchdown (int. return at UNC). The last time Wake Forest scored two touchdowns in a game was against Clemson last season on Nov. 1. King was involved that time, taking an interception return for a touchdown. Jyles Tucker also returned a fumble for a score.
Halftime Lead...
Wake Forest led 14-3 at halftime, getting the upper hand at the intermission for the fifth time this season. Last time Wake Forest hosted Florida State, in 2002, the Deacons led FSU 21-17 before the `Noles rallied to win.
Anderson Passes 2,000 Career Receiving Mark...
In the first half, Jason Anderson surpassed the 2,000 career yard receiving mark. He finished with 6 catches and 99 yards. Anderson also moved into 6th place on the Wake Forest all-time receiving chart. He passed Red O'Quinn (1946-49) and James Brim (1983-86).
Always Down To The Wire...
Twenty-three of the 43 games in the Jim Grobe era have been decided by seven points or less. Five games this year have been decided by less than a touchdown and Wake Forest is 1-4 in those games. Eleven of Grobe's 21 wins with the Deacons have been by eight points or less. On the flipsideA, 14 of the 22 losses have been by eight points or less, including three overtime games.
