
Deacons Finish Seventh In Strong Field

WINDERMERE, FL - Wake Forest, fielding a lineup of three freshmen, one sophomore and one junior, finished seventh in a group of 16 of the nation's top college golf teams at the Isleworth Invitational.
The Deacons shot a final round 12-over 300 team score in today's final round at the par 72 Isleworth Country Club. The 54-hole tournament, which began with 36 holes on Monday, included nine nationally-ranked teams including the 24th-ranked Demon Deacons.
Georgia won the team title with a cumulative 1-under par 863, 10 strokes ahead of second place Oklahoma State and 11 strokes in front of third-place Georgia Tech. Texas finished fourth, followed by Augusta State, Clemson and Wake Forest.
Wake Forest junior Kyle Reifers finished eighth in the individual race with a 71-68-78--217. Deacon freshman Webb Simpson continued his solid play this fall by shooting a final round 5-under 67 to finish with a 219, tied for 15th place. Freshman Chris McCartin shot a three-day 224 (27th place), freshman Dustin Groves scored a 231 (44th place) and sophomore Sean Moore shot a 232 (tied for 45th).
Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin and Georgia's Chris Kirk tied for individual medalist honors with a 7-under 209.
Wake Forest will play its final event of the fall season Nov. 5-7 at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, GA.
