A Loss This Week Would...

  • give the Deacons a 4-7 season, their fewest wins in a season since 2000.
  • make Wake Forest's all-time record 13-39-1 against Maryland.
  • drop Wake Forest's record away from Groves under Grobe to 10-12.
  • make Grobe's teams 1-4 against Maryland and 0-4 against Ralph Friedgen's teams.
  • drop Grobe's four-year record at Wake Forest to 22-25 and 55-58-1 in his career.
  • give Wake Forest an all-time record of 374-567-33.

  • Wake Forest's captains were seniors Blake Lingruen and Warren Braxton. The Deacons won the toss and elected to defer.

  • Wake Forest's starting lineup featured eight seniors including, Jason Anderson (33), Blake Lingruen (32), R.D. Montgomery (4), Eric King (42), Caron Bracy (42), Marcus McGruder (35), Brad White (33), Jerome Nichols (21); three juniors including Chris Barclay, Wesley Bryant, Goryal Scales; six sophomores including Steve Vallos, Nate Morton, Arby Jones, Josh Gattis, Patrick Ghee, Jyles Tucker; and five freshmen including Matt Brim, Zac Selmon, Ben Mauk, Matt Robinson, Jonathan Abbate.

Outcome All Too Familiar...

  • As has been the case all season, Wake Forest was within a touchdown up until the final minute. The Deacs have now dropped six games this season by a touchdown or less, including two in overtime.

Barclay Reaches 1,000 Yards...

  • Junior Chris Barclay rushed 25 times for 103 yards on the day. In doing so, Barclay ends his season with 1,010 yards. Barclay reached 1,000 yards for the season on the final play of the third quarter. He becomes the first Wake Forest player to rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons. Today marked the fourth time Barclay has rushed for 100 yards in a game, all came against ACC opponents. Barclay will enter his senior season needing 907 yards to become Wake Forest's all-time leading rusher.

... And Ties Wake Forest Career Touchdown Record

  • Barclay's third quarter touchdown was the 30th of his career, tying James McDougald and Michael Ramseur for the Wake Forest career record for rushing touchdowns.

Plack Attack...

  • Ryan Plackemeier's 54-yard punt in the third quarter was the 17th punt of 50 yards or more this season and the 45th of his career. The 69-yard blast in the fourth quarter was a career-long and was his fourth 60-yard boot of the year and eighth of his career (previous best was 67 vs. Duke last season). With his 43.96 per punt average Saturday, Plackemeier locked up the top spot in punting over Maryland kicker Adam Podlesh (finished 43.75).

Idlette Turns In Longest Return...

  • Willie Idlette's 20-yard punt return in the third quarter was his longest of the season. He previous best was 19 against Boston College.

Mauk On The Run...

  • Ben Mauk's 27-yard scamper in the first quarter equaled a season-long for him. He finished the day with 18 rushing yards.

Deacons Held Scoreless In First Half...

  • For the first time this season -- and the first time in 17 games, (Oct. 11, 2003 vs. Georgia Tech) -- the Deacons were scoreless in the first half.
