WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A trio of the Wake Forest freshmen class have earned Top Drawer Soccer national All-Freshman Team accolades. Defender Patrick Phelan (Enfield, Conn.) received first-team recognition, while goalkeeper Brian Edwards (Charlotte, N.C.) and defender Julian Valentin (Lancaster, Pa.) earned second team.

Phelan has started at right marking back in 14 games for the Demon Deacons this season. Phelan has been a key contributor as Wake Forest has recorded seven shutouts this season and a 0.85 goals against average. The Deacs had a streak of nearly 500 scoreless minutes snapped last night in a 2-1 victory at Davidson.

Despite the pressure of replacing All-American William Hesmer and being the ACC's only freshman starting goalkeeper, Edwards has been solid all season. The netminder has seven shutouts this season, including four straight matches at one point. Edwards has played every single minute for the DEmon Deacons.

Valentin has seen action in 13 matches and started nine, despite battling a couple of injuries this season. The defender has also added a goal and assist out of the back.
