Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team will host the North Carolina A&T Aggies on Thursday at 7pm in the Lawrence Joel Coliseum. This game will be the third out of four home games that the Demon Deacons play this week.
The Deacons have opened the 2004 season with four consecutive victories over Hampton, Princeton, Stetson, and Davidson. The Deacs are looking to surpass their 1988-1989 season-opening record of five straight wins. A win over NC A&T will mark a five game winning streak for Wake Forest this season.
The match-up between Wake and N.C. A&T will be the third in the past few years, and the 10th overall. The Deacs and the Aggies met four times in the late `70s and three times in the `80s. The rivalry between these local teams began again in the 2002-2003 season. Wake defeated the Aggies in both the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons, and leads the series, 6-3 with a five game streak.
In the Deacs' Tuesday night game, Wake Forest defeated Davidson, 58-55, thanks to Porsche Jones' last second, game winning 3-point shot. Jones scored a career-high 25 points. Wake clinched the close scoring game, despite shooting 33.9% overall.
Wake Forest will host their final game of the week against Providence. Tip-off for that game is slated for Saturday at 5:30 pm in Joel Coliseum.
