TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Sophomore Liz Strunk scored 18 points, including 12 in the second-half, but it was not enough to overcome a dominating Florida State effort on the offensive glass as the Demon Deacons dropped their fifth straight game, 67-54, in ACC women's college basketball action from Leon County Civic Center Monday night.
Strunk went 5-for-11 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. It is the 11th time this season that the forward has led the Deacs in scoring. Strunk also grabbed six rebounds and registered two steals.
Florida State not only out-rebounded the Demon Deacons, 40-33, but also grabbed 15 off the offensive glass. The Seminoles out-scored the Deacs, 40-22, in the paint and took advantage of a 22-5 advantage on second chance points.
The Seminoles posted four players in double figures. Alicia Gladden led Florida State with 13 points, while Tasheika Allen and Trinetta Moore each added 12 and Lauren Bradley chipped in 10. Shante Williams scored only seven points, but grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds and dished out seven assists.
Porsche' Jones was the only other Demon Deacon in double figures. The redshirt freshman point guard tallied 10 points, just two off her career-high. Jones went 5-for-9 from the floor and dished out two assists.
Wake Forest returns to action this Sunday afternoon against Clemson. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be aired on the ACC Regional Sports Network (Fox Sports South).
