Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's soccer team will host Elon in its final exhibition game of the season today at Spry Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., with the men's team to follow with an exhibition game of its own at 7 p.m.
In the series between the Demon Deacons and the Phoenix, Wake Forest is ahead 2-0, with the last meeting in 2002. Since the 5-0 victory, Wake Forest only returns three players from the 2002 squad, senior Alli Hunt and juniors Melanie Schneider and Sarah Kozey. They will be joined on the field today by 10 sophomores, including ACC All-Freshman team selection, Elizabeth Remy. The team also welcomes 18 newcomers.
In the first exhibition game against Penn State, Wake Forest fared well, despite the 4-3 loss. Kozey led the Deacs with a goal and an assist, while sophomores Kristen Kemp and Melanie Schneider also found the cage during the 120-minute game.
The Deacs will officially open the season on the road against Vanderbilt, Aug. 27. The home opener will take place on Monday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m., against UNC-Greensboro.
