Demon Deacons Wrap Up Two-a-Days: After a sloppy start to the opening of Tuesday's morning session, the Deacs re-gained there focus and went through a solid session of just over two and a half hours. Wake Forest opened the morning practice with some special teams' drills. Head coach Jim Grobe halted the session after just three periods and demanded the Demon Deacons start over with 100 percent focus. The Deacs were in full-pads and spent much of the morning in their position groups.
The afternoon session was much of the same, but the practice lasted only 20 periods -- a span of just under two hours.
Quoting Head Coach Jim Grobe on the team's performance: "Our punt team was sloppy getting started. A lot of times when you practice in the morning, the first two or three periods are sloppy, but we can't afford for our punt team to be sloppy so we let them go back and get some extra work on that stuff. I thought yesterday afternoon was a good practice for us and today was another. We were hot and cold on both sides of the ball at times, but for the most part I was pleased with what we got done this morning."
Quoting Head Coach Jim Grobe on the start of classes Wednesday: "We do not change anything up really. It is something the players have to get used to. Their job is really to be here in school and do a good job in the classroom. Our players really have to be able to go to class during the day and be a nice guy and good student, then come over here and change to become a football player. The nice thing is we have a full week and a half to get used to it. In the past, we started school later or played earlier and the start of school always turned things upside down. This year is great because we get a full week of school in before we play."
On The Sideline: Senior cornerback Eric King sat out both practices on Tuesday with a plica irritation in his knee. The injury is not severe and King remains day-to-day ... Redshirt freshman wide receiver Kenneth Moore remained on the sideline with his right foot in a boot. The injury is a re-aggravation of a previous foot injury that will force him to miss the next week ... Sophomore strong safety Patrick Ghee missed both sessions after suffering a mild concussion in this past Saturday's scrimmage. He should be back on the field by this weekend ... Freshman Mike Causey missed both practices with a mild MCL sprain ... Freshman defensive tackle Aaron McKenzie sat out both sessions with a calf strain ... Junior safety Robert Simmons missed each practice, also suffering a mild concussion in this past Saturday's scrimmage. He should be back on the field by this weekend ... Senior cornerback Marcus McGruder missed the afternoon practice with some soreness in his right knee. He is day-to-day.
Upcoming Practice Schedule: Practice continues on Wednesday on the campus fields with a 4:30 p.m. session. Wednesday is the first day of classes. Here is the team's practice schedule for the next couple days.
Thursday, Aug. 26 4:30-6:30 pm (Campus Field) Friday, Aug. 27 4:30-6:30 pm (Campus Field) Saturday, Aug. 28 Scrimmage: 9:30 am (Groves Stadium)
