WakeForestSports.com:
Today's report begins our daily coverage of preseason camp at WakeForestSports.com. Throughout the month of August, this will be the place for daily updates on the Demon Deacon football team. In addition to all press releases and practice reports, a Q&A series with Deacon football players will be posted on a regular basis.
Let's Go Camping!:
All 26 newcomers, including eight walk-ons, reported on Monday afternoon. The student-athletes received keys to their on-campus housing, their post office keys, their Wake Forest ID cards and schedules for both freshmen orientation and football practice. At 4:00 p.m., the student-athletes' parents attended a "Freshman Parent" orientation meeting with athletic director Ron Wellman and several members of the football support staff. This evening, the Deacons will have their first team meal and later tonight, all players will undergo physicals. Veteran players also reported today. The first practice of preseason is tomorrow night at 6:45 p.m.
On The Sideline:
Of the 98 student-athletes in camp, 97 will be fully available for tomorrow's practice. Junior defensive end John Finklea will be available on a limited basis. He continues to recover from a torn achilles tendon he suffered during winter conditioning workouts. Three other student-athletes that missed spring drills -- linebackers Jonathan Abbate and Chris Owen and tight end Dan Callahan -- are healthy.
Upcoming Practice Schedule:
The team's first practice will be on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. on the campus fields. The team will practice in helmets. The first practice in pads is Saturday afternoon. Two-a-days begin next Monday, August 16.
