Sarah Kozey Named Charlotte Classic Tournament MVP

Winston-Salem. N.C. - WINSTON-SALEM. N.C. -- After a spectacular weekend, scoring three goals with one assist, including the game-winning goal against Ole Miss, junior Sarah Kozey was named the Charlotte Classic Most Valuable Player. Kozey currently leads the Demon Deacons with five goals and two assists on the season. Against Virginia Commonwealth, Kozey opened up the tournament finding two goals against the Rams, adding one assist along the way, helping the Deacs to a 5-2 victory. On Sunday, Wake Forest was forced into double overtime against Ole Miss, where Kozey found the game-winning goal, assisted by Tara Caldwell. Caldwell also earned a spot on the all-tournament team after a strong showing in both games. Junior Melanie Schneider and senior Alli Hunt joined Caldwell on the all-tournament team. Against VCU, Schneider notched two goals, while Hunt, a core member of the Deacon defense, found one shot on goal. With the two wins this weekend, the Deacs have moved 3-0-1 on the season and will host the Wake Forest/adidas Soccer Classic with Colorado, Utah and Denver Sept. 10-12.
