Deacons In 12th Place After Two Rounds In Tennessee

JONESBOROUGH (TN) - Eleventh-ranked Wake Forest, struggling after two rounds of play at The Ridges golf course, is in 12th place out of 15 teams with 18 holes remaining in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.

The Demon Deacons, who are coming off a team and individual victory last week in Richmond, shot identical 11-over 299s in both rounds on Saturday. Wake Forest is 28 strokes off the pace, but just 11 strokes out of seventh place.

South Carolina leads the team race after shooting 6-under in 36 holes on Saturday. The Gamecocks are four strokes in front of second-place North Carolina. TCU (+1) is in third place, followed by East Tennessee State (+2) and Kent State (+8).

East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies shot a sizzling 68-69--137 (-7) to lead the individual race. Davies is two strokes in front of South Carolina's Florian Fritsch and three strokes ahead of a group of three golfers at 4-under par.

Wake Forest was led by junior Sean Moore, who is tied for 25th after shooting 73-75--148 (+4). Senior All-American Kyle Reifers followed a morning 78 with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon and is tied for 36th at 5-over par. Sophomore Webb Simpson shot a 76-74--150 (+6) and is tied for 45th. Senior Doug Manchester followed a 73 with an 8-over 80 and is tied for 61st. Marc Gladson, the only freshman on the Deacon roster, shot a 77-79--156 (+12).

The final 18 holes are scheduled for Sunday morning.
